How to use it

Point at each fish and say the describing word together. Ask your child to find their favourite on every page. The ending is a lovely cuddle moment.

What it helps with

Comprehension and discussion questions

Pick two or three, not all of them. “I don’t know” is a fine answer, and you can always come back to it another day.

  1. “Can you find a spotty fish?”
  2. “Which fish was grumpy?”
  3. “Who was Little Fish looking for?”
  4. “Which fish is your favourite?”
  5. “What colour fish would you be?”
  6. “Who do you love most?”

5-minute activities to try together

Fish describing

Draw a fish together and choose two describing words for it, like stripy and silly.

Pattern hunt

Find spots, stripes and zigzags around the house, like the fish in the book.
