Astro Girl: questions to ask and activities to try

Astrid wants to be an astronaut, and she's already practising. Astro Girl is a warm, playful story about big dreams, a loving family, and a surprise at the end.

What age is it for? Astro Girl is best for ages 3–6. Good for: Dreaming big, and girls who love space.

How to use it

Read it with a torch for the stars if you can. Pause before the airbase and ask where Mama might have been. Afterwards, talk about what your child dreams of being, and what they could practise now.

What it helps with

Comprehension and discussion questions

Pick two or three, not all of them. “I don’t know” is a fine answer, and you can always come back to it another day.

  1. “What did Astrid want to be?”
  2. “What astronaut things did she practise with Papa?”
  3. “Where had Mama been?”
  4. “How do you think Astrid felt when she found out?”
  5. “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
  6. “What could you practise now?”

5-minute activities to try together

Astronaut training

Try some astronaut challenges: eat a snack without using your hands, move in slow motion, sleep in a sleeping bag.

Dream board

Draw what your child dreams of being, and three things they could try now to get closer.
